A New Table

Sometimes you see something you just have to have!

In this case, I saw a table months and months ago on a yard sale site.  I tired to buy it but never got any response back.  Well, lo and behold, it came up for sale agine.  And guess what?  I got it!  It was $100…a lot to me but so worth it!

Of course you have to see the paint cans…and you know I would paint it white, right?

I knew this table set could really shine with that scallop trim under the table top.  The detail would be gorgeous once painted and distressed…I just knew it!  But that meant I had to part with my other table.

It had served me well, but I was always a little bummed that you could never see the mantle or the full view of the rug.  Another downfall was how the dining chairs sat low with the table.  Mom and I felt like little kids at the grownups table, lol!  The set was beautiful though…and it found a new home with the owner.  Her husband bought it for her as a Mother’s Day present.  Now isn’t that sweet?!  She was thrilled and so was I!

So I spray painted the metal parts of the new set, then used satin paint and brushed on the wood parts.  Lightly distressing it all once done along with recovering the seats, made a huge difference!  But I envisioned the chairs with a slipcovered seat.  That’s when I pulled out my trusty sewing machine and dug through my stash of fabric.

I almost didn’t have enough fabric to do all 4 seats…I did panic a little.  But after praying, lol, I found just enough!  Even the prayers that seem so goofy to most, aren’t to me.  I can talk to God about anything.  I’m so glad He listens to and loves me.

I absolutely do not know what I would do if I didn’t know how to sew!  To be able to pull something together with fabric, it really just finishes things off, doesn’t it?  I am so thankful when I was just a little girl, that Mammaw showed me how to love sewing.  My Mom and Aunt helped fuel that love.  When I sit in front of my sewing machine, it’s like I step into a time portal.  All of the sweet memories come flooding back of the times I sat and watched them all sew.

Now just look at the detail!!!  You can see the middle of this gorgeous rug and you can actually see the mantle so much better.  And the neat part is that you feel like you’re now sitting at the adults table!  Mom will be so pleased that she doesn’t sink way down anymore.

It really opened things up!  I have plenty of room in our kitchen for everything, but to actually feel like you have more space, well, that’s always a plus!

The table is about 4 inches smaller than the other one, but the chairs do not go all the way underneath the table. Itpretty much equals out to be the same size.  We’ve had big dining tables, but why?  We eat buffet style and we have the island, so we really do not need a huge table.  My family has gotten smaller through the years, so there’s plenty of seating for family get together’s.

I have this fabric throughout along with the Bella Rose blue.  They compliment each other perfectly.  And I love the ties…they add a little extra charm.

See how the rug shows up now?

And look at that scallop trim!!!  Isn’t that just the cats meow?!!!

It turned out to be a really beautiful new addition!

And it looks beautiful with the window wall as a back drop.

So there you have it!  A new table for me and I couldn’t be more pleased!

It’s funny how Some things work out…I knew I wanted that table and eventually I was blessed enough to buy it!  Isn’t God good?!

  1. I love that table, Melanie, and your re-do is just perfect. Just a thought for you-If you come across a large round glass top you can center the table under it and make your table top larger without impeding the view at all. I did that for a table that we had and then the chairs slid under it but we could still see all the pretty. Like I said- just a thought.
I, too, love to sew but just don’t have enough hours in the day to do that anymore. It is just crazy around here all the time. Just you wait until your girls are older and start bringing home sweet grandbabies! You will find your time fills to the brim even more. lol
Have a blessed Sunday- xo Diana
ps. Saw your cousin, Tina, at a volleyball tournament yesterday. I see her at least once a week in passing when I pick kids up from school.

  3. Oh, I love this. I have this set and the tabletop is a bit in need of some refinishing. I really hadn’t thought of painting it white but I love this. Thanks for the inspiration
