Can you believe Spring is almost here? At least where I live, it is.
I’ll start with a little humor. Notice how our dogs are sitting and not chasing the ducks? Well, we have an Invisifence and I do believe those ducks know just where the boundaries are! Poor Lucie and Bowser were just so enamored with their presence, lol!
We haven’t had much of a Winter so I am a little hesitant about Spring and snakes….I can’t stand snakes! Where we live, there are lot’s of woods and we saw more last year than all of the almost 20 years that we’ve lived here. YIKES…I shudder at the though of them! We’ve already seen that the dogs had one a week ago when the weather was so warm. I PRAY to God up above that these dogs are snake killers!
But at least I’m safe inside and can have Spring year round no matter what the weather is like.
So here’s a few snapshots of the kitchen/dining room that I absolutely love. We spend so much time in the open area that adjoins the family room. More to come with that area and the free chair I was blessed with!
To have both spaces flow harmoniously has been one of my focuses for many years. When we first bought this home, we tore out a HUGE bar that separated the two spaces. We then built an island that has been replaced by a smaller one that has sentimental value.
And thankfully, I am able to turn it any way I like! For now, I have the chairs facing the dining table. It was nice for the holidays with family and being able to see and talk while we ate.
Knowing this was my Aunt’s and the detail of this old piece just makes me happy! I just cleaned it up and added new pulls…that’s it! It was already white, had a few chips here and there and I just knew it was probably led paint being so old, I didn’t want to take a chance. If you leave it alone, and do not disturb the paint, it is safe. I added a new top of course for safe eating. But I just love it!
Another old thing that I love, is the mantle and it’s top piece. Two different piece’s were merged together to get this beauty! As a little girl, one of our neighbors had an old farm house that had a fireplace in the kitchen. I think the cozy feeling I got from being there, influenced me to do this in our space. Although it isn’t a functioning fireplace, the feel it gives is just as good with giving warmth to our home.
I just recently hung the scroll piece to hide an un-centered diamond that is original to the mantle. Whoever put it there didn’t know what center meant, lol. It has driven me insane until now! Here you can see the skirt that was made in the same Bella Rose Blue fabric that I love so much. They hang on a rod that fits snuggly inside the vintage fire insert I found at a thrift store. It added so much charm, don’t you think?
New curtains were made for the window wall in the Shabby Chic Candy Floral fabric from sheets. I did have the Bella Rose Blue, but needed it for my sewing projects in the family room. I can’t wait to show you that area….some things have changed for the better for my family! But that will come a little bit later.
Maybe you can see that the large sofa is gone?
That’s a little hint 😉
Honestly, I love the view from every room in our home. It’s such a cozy feeling all throughout! It really is my dream come true and I am so thankful every day. God has truly blessed me with things I have loved ever since I was a little girl and only dreamed of. His Word says He will give us the desires of our hearts and he surely has! But I know truly what makes a house a home full of love and that’s Jesus.
Have a blessed weekend and enjoy whatever you may be doing. Just be thankful you’ve been given another day and make it a good one no matter what. As long as there is breath, there is HOPE!
